Dämmerfarben was founded under the name Schattenwindes Dämmerfarben in 2005 by Nostarion (in these days known as Blackheart Nostarion) as a solo-project beside his bands, such as Autumn in Frost, and his work as a live- and studio-session and orchestra musician.
In 2006 Nostarion recorded the bands’ first demo-EP called “Des Herbstes Trauerhymnen”. It was a three-track piece including the songs “Herbstsonne”, “Des Herbstes Trauerlied” and “Schattenwindes Dämmerfarben”. After releasing the demo-EP, the name was changed to Dämmerfarben.

It was May 2008 when Fergen Grimnir, musician of the bands Throndt and Idhafels joined the band as bass-player. In the end of 2008 the band got a further new member: Nachtgarm, known for his performances with bands like Negator, Dark Funeral, Pantheon I and more, took place as the second vocalist of Dämmerfarben, but he left the band for personal reasons before any new releases could come out.

2010 the band signed with “Northern Silence Productions”. Since the beginning of work on the first longplayer album “Im Abendrot” Christopher, known from his bands Kerbenok and Árstíðir Lífsins became the new session drummer for the upcoming works. Now the line-up for “Im Abendrot” was completed: Nostarion, Fergen Grimnir and Christopher.

In the beginning of 2012 three new musicians joined the band for the next album. Emma Björling, known from Kongero and Lyy, Magnus Holmström playing solo-nyckelharpa and in Storis & Limpan Band, and Martin Wiese, from Enid and known for his orchestral work will be part of Dämmerfarben.

Later 2012 Dämmerfarben and their friends of Blaze of Sorrow had the idea of a Split-release. In late summer 2013 - after a couple of obstacles - the Austrian label “Talheim Records” was found to release the limited Splatter-Vinyl-Split “Geister des Winters”. It came to light 2015 in a bundle with the new T-Shirt “Wintergang” and a a limited logo-patch.

Also in 2015 Austin Lunn (Panopticon) joined Dämmerfarben as new drummer.

In December 2018 "Supreme Chaos Records" re-released the albums "Im Abendrot" (as double vinyl) and "Herbstpfad" (single vinyl) - each as three vinyl-versions: black, clear and marbled.

2019 the Band rerecorded the new arranged songs from the first demo-EP and added some new tracks. 2020 their third full-length came to light: "Des Herbstes Trauerhymnen MMXX".
